Temperature-sensitive soft microgels at interfaces: air–water versus oil–water

چکیده
The formation of smart emulsions or foams whose stability can be controlled on-demand by switching external parameters is great interest for basic research and applications. An emerging group stabilizers are microgels, which nano- micro-sized, three-dimensional polymer networks that swollen a good solvent. In the last decades, influence various stimuli on two-dimensional phase behavior microgels at air- oil-water interfaces has been studied. However, impact top-phase itself barely considered. Here, we present data directly address microgel properties interfaces. dimensions pNIPAM measured after deposition from two interfaces, i.e., decane-water. While total in-plane size increases with increasing interfacial tension, portions fractions situated in aqueous not affected. We correlate area occupy to surface tensions allows estimate an elastic modulus. comparison nanoindentation measurements, observe larger modulus microgels. By combining compression, deposition, visualization, show monolayers altered, although have higher tension. Local structure of temperature and pH-sensitive colloidal microgels.
The temperature dependence of the local intra-particle structure of colloidal microgel particles, composed of interpenetrated polymer networks, has been investigated by small-angle neutron scattering at different pH and concentrations, in the range (299÷315) K, where a volume phase transition from a swollen to a shrunken state takes place. Data are well described by a theoretical model that tak...

The temperature-induced structural changes and thermodynamics of ionic microgels based on poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) networks bonded with poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(propylene oxide)-b-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) (Pluronic) copolymers have been studied by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), ultra-small-angle neutron scattering (USANS), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and equili...
متن کاملSoft Constraints at Interfaces
Assuming that grammar is best modeled as a set of modules each representing a constraint system, like other human cognitive faculties, these constraint systems are bound to disagree and soft constraints are needed for conflict resolution among modules. This paper outlines an approach to incorporate soft constraints among grammar modules. The paper first goes over the issue of modularity and con...
متن کاملArtificial photosynthesis at soft interfaces.
The concept of artificial photosynthesis at a polarised liquid membrane is presented. It includes two photosystems, one at each interface for the hydrogen and oxygen evolution respectively. Both reactions involve proton coupled electron transfer reactions, and some ultrafast steps at the photosensitization stage.
متن کاملCapillary waves at soft electrified interfaces
Recent theory of capillary waves along the interface between two immiscible electrolytes is generalized to include the non-linear polarization of the double layer. The theory covers both the effects of the capillary waves on the double layer capacitance, as well as the effect of charging the interface on the amplitudes and spectrum of capillary waves. The theory explains major available experim...
